Studio Brief 1 - Brief Introduction

Brief Introduction

Today we got our new brief. Essentially the brief was our first live, open brief. The brief was for a competition called Secret 7. Secret 7 is a competition where you have to choose a song from a random selection of 7. Once you choose your favourite song out of the 7, you then come up with a design for an 7" vinyl sleeve cover. However there are some design rules that have to be followed. As the name of the competition is called "Secret 7", the artist name, picture and song title can't be displayed on the front of the sleeve. Therefore through different experimentations and designs visuals, the vinyl sleeves have to communication the song title just through design.

The main point for this brief is to make sure my work stands out. In total there will be 1000s of entries and only 100 winners for each song category. So making sure my design is attractive and visually communicates the message in an instant eye glance is highly important.

Looking at this brief I know that i have to try my best to understand the song in different methods, from the music video to the rhythm and connection to the song.

Requirements

Making sure i document all research, development and final designs on my blog. Also another requirement is the final resolution. Looking into the submission guide lines from Secret 7. The document size had to be 184mm x 184mm with a 3mm bleed, bringing the total document size to 190x190. Last requirement is to at least 30 minimum designs to show. Maybe having 30 ideas minimum is a bit to obsessive, which may lead people to just randomly draw out ideas just to make up the numbers?
