Today in Ambers session, we was told to
bring 3 typefaces of our choosing to todays workshop. My three were
Futura bold, Impact and Gotham. Once in the lesson we had to swap our typefaces
with somebody else, on dong this we had to choose one typeface and write on
the back of it what we thought that certain letter visually communicated to us.
We had to do this for how many letters we can.Once finished we swapped back.
Once we received our letter back we had to
choose one from the three and then write 5 thing about what that typeface
represented to us. I decided to go for Futura bold as for me this was my chosen
typeface in Studio Brief one and I’m a avid fan of san-serifs typefaces. Futura bold
visually represented strength, legibility, abrupt, bold and well structured.
Once we described our typeface we was presented with our next task.

| Typeface and what everyone thought of their word |
We were first split into groups of 6-7 and
then told that we had to combine everyone’s chosen typeface into one letter, as
some sort of Frankenstein’s monster of a typeface. Half of our group was had to
work on a uppercase and the other on a lowercase typeface but together the
uppercase and lowercase had to have similar characteristics and work as a set.
My group were given the responsibility of
producing the lowercase letter. The typeface we had to work with were:
 |
| Amarta |
 |
| Century Gothic |
 |
| Futura Bold |
 |
| Ribbon |
 |
| Cyclone |
 |
| Willow |
 |
| Stencil |
 |
| All letters next to each other |
So we went on sketching out what our letter could look like.
This was the final outcome for both upper and lower case.

| Final outcome |
I think our typeface definitely
worked as a set apart from one of the stems on the uppercase as it’s a bit to thin
to be legible and consistent with our lowercase. I think our new typeface
presented it’s self as playful, readable (the lowercase at least), strong and
rounded.
After this part of the workshop was over
Amber sprang another surprise on us by reviling our last task of the day. Using
one of words we chose to describe our typeface we had to then dress someone in
that word using paper. So our word was playful so with looked up the dictionary
version of this word and then out of paper dressed Cameron up in paper. This
was the outcome below (if the picture wasn't missing) basically we made paper glasses, mask and a hat to represent a fun side and to not take anything to serious.
