After the crit, Simon told us that we had
to choose 10 designs out of the ideas we had presented. The designs had to be
printed in 10x10cm format and had to be either hand rendered or digital
produced at a high standard.
When working though producing the rest of
my designs at a higher standard I came up with a new idea for a typeface design.
As I was bored and playing around with paper I noticed that this was a quite
hands on approach and could be made into a paper-based letter form. After the
idea came to my mind I decided to research about this area and I came across a
few images of paper based letter forms and some companies who do the majority
of their work around paper, so only producing graphics from paper based things.

I ended up crafting out a few different
styles with crossing and folding the paper, also with the thickness of the paper
makes a massive different of what you can do with it. My main focus was on the
folds of the paper, as I wanted to see what kinds of angles and different folds
I could produce.

I really enjoyed working with a hands on
approach as I was away from the computer so wasn’t restricted and was free to
produce what ever I wanted with paper. Saying this, moving folded paper into a
digital format wouldn’t really work out as great. As once I move this into
illustrator I instantly loose the authentication of the idea and production which will just end up with a flat image trying to look 3D but will never will be communicated as well, however I'd like to see what Simon says on Friday when giving feedback.
Feedback
I didn’t receive much feedback from other
people in my group. The group agreed with me on what typeface was the best out
of the 10. Also they gave me suggestions on what other designs I could also
move forward as another option. The feedback was helpful and gave me more comfort
and confidence that I’m moving in the right direction and that my design does
in fact convey my chosen word (Artistic)
My next move for me at this stage will now be to create a grid for my typeface and trying to create one that inevitable fit all my
letters and not just the basic “A”, then going on to create all lowercase and uppercase letters.
