Studio brief 1 - Brief

Studio Brief 01 - Design Process – Frame Shape (Photoshop).

Studio brief one was based around Photoshop and around the concept of manipulation with images and other materials essentially. So this brief was about designing backing papers for photo frames. We had to design a minimum of 3 designs, which can work across 3 different size frames. These frames were 6x4 - 7x5  - 8x6 or we could also use standard paper sizes such as a4 etc. On the brief it stated that our concept should be around shape but when we was brief on studio brief 1, we were told that we could choose other themes. Some other themes were Time, Geometric, Family and memories. In the beginning this was confusing as a lot of people didn’t know whether to stick to what the tutor had told us or stick to the brief.

When first looking into the brief it was clear that there were a lot of consideration to take into account before setting out on any concepts. Target audience was important as this would inform our tone of voice and the style of our design, also target audience links into target market as you can’t be designing backing paper to appeal to the older generation but your designs being displayed in Urban outfitters. Another consideration is to not focus purely on the digital aspect. It was pointed out to us to work with other forms of media and not just jump straight into Photoshop.

There were a few requirements to take on board also. We was require to have the finished composition in Photoshop but when creating any text or images to do so in illustrator. However maybe the brief should of pointed out that it would be beneficial to create vector images in illustrator but text in InDesign due to illustrator not being as functional and beneficial when working with text? Also we had to make sure our photo frames were in a series or set and had a theme to uniform them as one.
