Studio Brief 4 - Research

After finding a problem with my collection of stamp i began to research about my concept, which was interactive stamps and making stamps more and fun and enjoyable to collect, which would encourage younger people to start collecting stamps.

At first i started looking into whether there had already been example of interactive stamp in some form. I came across a an postal company in Croatia who have come up with a great idea to combine the digital world with your everyday stamps. There product was creating a stamp with a QR code embedded into the stamp which allows the user to confirm the receipt of their package and trace its journey. Also users can add text, images and other call feature to the stamp.

In 2010 the royal mail created it's very first "intelligent stamp" which is similar to the example above but what's fascinating with this product is that it enables the Royal mail to make an interactive video embedded into the stamp. The way you would view the video is to first purchase a copy of the interactive stamp. You would then download the app which is free of charge, then scan over the stamp with the camera feature, which in return bring up the special video message about the Royal mail. An amazing concept which enable stamps to enter the world of the 21 century.

A video on how to use the stamp is below.

Another example of using video embedded into stamps is the product that an postage company in Australia has came up with.

It's similar concept to the Royal mail "intelligent stamp" and the Croatian stamp idea but it's more personal and much more beneficial in a global context. So the user will still go through the same process by downloading the app along with scanning the stamp, difference is that the sender of the stamp can send a personal message whether it be video or text. This idea is absolutely mind blowing and a great example of 21st century technology. Its great for loved ones to send personal messages across the world without spending a penny in the process.
