As I will be creating a publication representing the creative scene in Berlin, I wanted my publication to have a influential link to a modernist and contemporary style. I had already touched upon contemporary book covers from last years design principle and book covers in a general sense. Blog post here:

However, I wanted to be more specific according to the kind of publication I will be producing for Brief 3.

This book cover promotes a contemporary and modern aesthetic. Modern layout with a hierarchy structure. Title dominating the page ensuring the user can see the title within a glance. The colour scheme of the green, beige and blue gives the book cover a vintage 60's look that could be a representation of the content of the book inside. The blue overlay on the image is a popular contemporary style within graphic design and is also a very efficient way to save money. The blue could be a pantone colour and that in it's self can save money on printing costs. The image is centre aliened on the page giving an visual appeal and also breaking up the text on the page.

Travel & style book made up mostly of photography. It's modern and stripped back aesthetic is communicated in all aspects of the design. The cover uses a modern san-serif type face with thin attributes and increased tracking to communicate a soft, delicate typeface opposed to a densely positioned font. The rest of the text on the page is spacious but in a serif font and not a san-serif font. This change in font portrays a classy and sophisticated representation that is greatly executed. The image it's self is something that makes the book come to life. The soft colour scheme with the margins on ether side gives greater strength to the already sophisticated look.

'A portrait of Hackney' is a photography book demonstrating people in Hackney's urban fashion scene. The books aesthetic is more urban looking and more demanding then the previous book. It's very appealing and will instantly appeal to the intended viewer. Full bleed image, giving off a strong visual appeal. Small amount of text to not distract or clash with the featured image. Title of the book may be lost in some form with the busyness of the clothes the woman is wearing but overall a well executed book cover.
