My book for design principles will be based on Dangerous cults. I
want to communicate this subject by creating a book that is creepy/scary &
eerie looking at the same time. I will mainly be focusing on the typography throughout
the process. I personally feel i can experiment with typography in an
expressive format. Throughout the book i will try and use imagery to it's
maximum potential. By showing sensitive and explicit images to focus on the
brutal killings and evil agendas the cult leaders had, will make the reading
more emotional but more engaged.
The subject will focus on a number of
cults, which have been and gone from the past. Cults like KKK, Peoples Temple,
Heavens Gate and The Manson Family. As far as structure and layout of the
pages, i am unsure at this early stage. However to visually communicate a
sinister approach, having a post-modern style will be more effective than a
well organised, well structured modern book.
So far i would like the stock to be thick off
white stock. I would also like to experiment with paper that doesn't have
straight edges on the finish. So off centred, ripped looking paper would be
ideal. For the binding, i would like the method to be perfect bind or case
bind. This method was chosen, as I wanted the front of my book to look like a
bible. However with having a hardback cover, there needs to be a lot of pages
as the book could look to flat. I can either resolve this by changing the binding
method or doubling the pages to add thickness to the book.
