As I’m at the stage where my 3 posters are nearly ready to print i needed to think about what stock, thickness, size and printing method would be used. From the start i was going to have all three posters as A3. However feeding back from the final crit, a lot of people mention how effective my posters where on the projector, so they suggested i should print my poster off at A2 instead. Also as my posters were in the style of David Carson some text may become un-readable, so printing at a higher size will allow the poster’s body text to be seen and read by a lot more people. With this all in mind i decided to go for A2 instead of A3.
Stock choice for my posters was Matt. I have a grunge feel to the background & style of my posters, so a clean, shiny gloss stock will lessen the effect and discredit the feel i was trying to express. I was also thinking whether to use my own stock and instead of using a grunge texture for the background I could create my own ‘dirty’ stock by either stamping on it or rubbing it against dirty surfaces. This was a good idea but i voted against it firstly because of the cost for mock prints if it went wrong and also i wanted the style to be dirty but not physically dirty as this may detract from the poster message and end up looking like a poster that was buried for 10 years. Thickness was medium weight, not to thick, as I wanted to ink to fully sink into the paper and not to thin for the poster to look weak, cheap and unstable.
Below is the outcome of the posters:
