Looking at previous exhibitions is an important part
of looking at what has previously been done. Hopefully through this research of
different exhibitions, our group can understand what’s possible and hopefully
inspire a lot of ideas from it. We will have to think about what kinds of
things are possible. Will it be able to hang work from the celling’s? Will it be
able to interact the audience enough? Most importantly will it be able to
communicate our concept, in a unique, interesting manner.
This exhibition is called the “Selfie House 3d Exhibition” It’s essentially an interactive exhibition showing off graffiti and fine art creative. There isn’t a lot of information about this Exhibition but from the images it seems extremely interactive. Having an interactive gallery is an amazing way to interact with the spectators. Normally the user would walk up to the work, look for around 10 seconds then move on. However this exhibition is different, you become a part of the work. By making the gallery space more interactive you making your work a lot more interesting, rememberable and visually pleasing. Who says that art exhibition should just be your bog-standard work on the wall. Being more visually aware will help you stand out and make you more noticeable.
However, you would need 3d work for this to work, but this idea can still be used, by using aspects like vinyl. Essentially using vinyl to create some kinds of illusion by using angles along with the walls and floor.
The one thing i loved about this exhibition set up was the branding used across a lot of areas. The exhibition is called ‘Victor Vasarely’ and is based around optical paintings. I love how they have played on the word optical and from there they created a concept, which has been consistent through out. Their logo is playing on the theme of optical illusions and from there you can see that theme on the variety of event collateral.
Even when the logo isn’t being used the brand is still recognizable by the black and white stripes. Brand consistency is extremely important for every exhibition. Having great consistency with your brand will allow you to be remembered at a glance. Also chosing a theme and making it work successfully is a hard task, which this exhibition does so well. Themes allow you to come up with more and more amazing ideas. Themes will last a lot longer then just an idea.
Once we came up with our concept of 45 degrees, we was thinking about how we could use degrees and angles within the exhibition space. How could we interpret the word angle? So i began to research previous exhibitions, which either work on angles or different ways of positioning their work/branding.
I came across an exhibition called ‘Neu Neu Neu’ for Young Design Munich. They say their concept is ‘17 perspectives on design, with different medial implementation energize the exhibition with new, interesting and innovative variety.’ What i was mainly interested in was the way they positioned their poster. Half of their poster was stuck on the wall and half off the wall. This links amazingly well with their concept and logo, their logo looks to be some kind of angular shape, works perfectly in this format. The overall work is very basic. Only using black and white but still keep the work very consistent, contemporary and uniformed through. Something hopefully our group can inspire too.
