Studio Brief 2 - Study Task 3

For today's study task we were given a poem and this poem was by Lewis Carroll called The Mouse's Tale. One the poem was given to us we was told to look at the words of the poem and create two layouts for it. Once modern layout and one post-modern layout. However when designing these two layouts, we had to make sure the poem still looked like a poem, which was the biggest challenge.

This is the modern layout. The most common layouts for a modern approach are mostly title on the left with the body copy on the right. Also we were inspired by Vignelli as Vignelli was well-known for his modernist principles. Overall the modern layout works. Everything is kept minimal to allow for negative space. allowing the users eye to easily travel from the left to the right.
This is the post-modern approach. This layout gives off a slight David Carson inspiration, which i absolutely love. Parts of the design replicates the movement of the mouse to link in with the poem, while some words express their true meanings like 'Death' and 'Fury' really announcing their self. Overall i think the layout works. It may be a bit hard to read and understand but that's the beauty of post-modern layouts. It's more about the expression and what the movement is trying to tell you, then for you to simply read the text.
