Studio Brief 2 - Study Task 4

So in bookbinding workshop, we learned how to bind book with 3 different methods. These 3 methods was saddle stitch, Japanese stitch and concertina bind. Binding will be an important part of studio brief 2. Each binding method gives of a different style and look, so choosing the right method to match your concept and message of your book is extremely important. Below are the three methods and what they could be used for.

Japanese Stitch - Best used for landscape type of books due to the stitching taking up a lot of the spine. A bit difficult to stitch at first but gets a lot easier once half way through. This kind bind would be great for creative and design style of books and would be less suitable for professional books like politics or corporate subjects.
Saddle stitch - Probably the easiest and the quickest of the three to make. Great to use this binding method for cost efficient books. Or books that don't have a lot of information in. Not the best binding method for books, which have high quality look with a lot of pages due the stitching not being strong enough. Not very reliable and durable.
Concertina bind - Least favourite binding method. Not exactly sure why someone would want to use this method. Not very professional or contemporary looking. Could be easily ripped and damaged due to the glue being the only sticking method. Also theirs a high chance of the book becoming distorted and creased by the glue. Good for books which have double sided needs bad for everything else in my opinion.
