Studio Brief 3 - Publication Layout Choice, so far

After sketching a number of layout choices, I felt my strongest layout choice was the one I used for my summer brief presentation (image below) It communicated a visually strong aesthetic that combined a contemporary style along with a conceptual layout. With a great user experience by using the zooming feature that will give the user a closer glimpse of the type in context without the distraction of the image and will essentially lead their eyes down the page and onto the text. Visually the layout sums up a modernist style, a visual representation of the style and scene of Berlin. By using current trends that I saw a lot of in Berlin and by taking inspiration from Berlin design studios from 'NODE' and 'Hello Me'  the use of monotone and outlining boxes and images and the rotated type on the side of the page, which these studios communicate effectively. And also my own personal touch all signify features that are in sync with Berlin's creative scene.

Summer brief layout.
As my summer brief layout was designed for single page PDF and not necessarily designed for a book, I came up with a few variation on how it would work on a double page spread.

The variations are very similar to each other. The main focus was the positioning of the text along with the zoomed in image. Testing out how the text would work in a 4 column layout compared to a 2 column layout. It was important to showcase a balance of tranquillity between the text and image, making them work together to create a fluid user experience that would lead the user from image to text by navigating their eyes down the zooming feature and onto the text.
The next step would be to develops a mock-up of the layout to see how it functions design wise.
