Studio Brief 1 - Mock up

Below are the mock up which i created for the interim brief.

This side of the leaflet is the front page and what i wanted for the front page is something visually appealing and creative. Some thing that the user would end up using as a poster.

My whole style for this leaflet was to have a design that was contemporary and had the look and feel of modern Graphic Design. I wanted it to look creative, fresh and 'design-like'. I wanted my leaflet to be aimed at young designers who were getting started with in the world of Graphic or any other design area. For the colours, i looked into what colours were the industry using at the moment , there were a number of variations of colour combinations but the blue and orange was what i was looking for. Something fresh and visually appealing, they're both complimentary of each other and the orange pops out of the page also. The orange gives the design a fresh look while the blue stripes back the design and offers a contemporary, modern feel.

The illustrations are all mostly representing the design process visually. Illustrations represent a fun, creative approach and are more effective for my target audience then using photographs or graphs to represent the process. Explanation of the info graphics is as follows: The A to Z represents the overall process and development, it's about getting from a - z, from start to finish. The book represents brief & research, pencil represents sketching and ideas, smiley face represents the happiness and relief once the brief is finally handed in.

This is the information side of the leaflet. The side that the user will first see. An important aspect to mention is that the front page of leaflet once folded will only be what you can see in the top left hand corner. Therefore it won't be exactly clear what the leaflet is about or for. I though about adding a title but i wanted the user to be intrigued and wondering what the leaflet is as all they will be able to see is 'THE DE" hopefully this will catch the interest of the users making them want to pick up the leaflet.

Overall the layout of this page is simple but still maintaining the vibrant and visual appearance from the front page. In typical Graphic Design fashion i decided to Helvetica as the main title font as this is most common within Graphic Design, therefore connecting with the target audience. However Helvetica is still a modern typeface so I won't lose the contemporary style I'm aiming for. The size of the typeface on the page is using the most of the empty space but also maintaining the visual impact of the design. All of the text is contained within the fold of the leaflet. I didn't want the text to run over the fold as this would make the text un-readable and a bit unprofessional. Lastly i used some of the illustrations on the front for the back just to connect the two and make the two look similar.

The process of which i want to print this leaflet is through screen printing. As the stock that i want to use will be dark blue, it would be extremely hard to print on that kind of colour stock. So the best option to maximise the visual potential would be to screen print the orange as this will allow me to use neon colours to give the design a boost in appearance. Also the size of the leaflet will be 50x38cm with a grid of 4x4. This would make great use of the width of the page but also cut out a lot of the white space in the height.
