Taking on board the analytical approach in the previous blog post, below are a number of visual concepts for 3 songs that I felt wouldn't be as popular then the rest of the line up.
Max Richter, Dream 3 - Concept above is demonstrating the balance and tranquillity of the instrumental. The intended message behind the song is to send the listener to sleep according to Max Richter. Taking this on board the idea of meditation and balance felt like the perfect way to communicate this song. The dream state of mind which is so intricate but so peaceful.
I came up with the idea from stacking shapes to reflect meditative state of mind, a balance of different shapes in a modernist style to reflect Bauhaus to keep the overall approach contemporary.
Max Richter Dream 3 - The message being demonstrated here is a black liquid running down a hand. This is to represent beauty and a dream like state of motion from the instrumental. The black rich liquid would reflect the slow motion of the song as the liquid slowly drips down the hand.
Even though 'The Jam' would be considered a popular choice for designers, I had a strong idea to represent the madness of the punk/mod era of The Jam. The idea was to represent the band in it's literal form. To have a person in a bath full of Jam. To represent the madness of the band the jam from the bath would be everywhere, up the walls and on the floor.
The concept might not represents the song but the idea demonstrates the bands punk past.
Representing the connotations and calmness of water, this idea is again for Max Richter. Using the lifeless flow and movement of the water to represent the movement of the song. The water would connect the user to it's movement, engaging and encompassing them into a illusion of calmness.
Tame Impala, The less I know the better - The idea here was to continue on from my winning entry from last year. Last year my winning entry was a hand forming a peace sign with play-doh on the two fingers. This year for Tame Impala the idea was to represent a scene in the music video where the gorilla is performing foreplay on the women.
So my idea was the have a gorilla's hand with a rainbow liquid running down it's fingers. It's a chance to create an idea that can be applied year after year creating a style that is unique and represented me as a designer.
Max Richter Dream 3 - The concept here was to represent the words of Max Richter. He summed up the song by saying the song was designed to sent the listener to sleep. Therefore, to take this approach in a humours way the above idea is a listener falling a sleep in a shopping centre.
Demonstrating that anyone who listens to the song will fall asleep where ever they are, reflecting the power of the song as a lullaby for adults. The design would also be in black and white to reflect a modern and dream like style.
