Brief
The D&AD Crimewatch brief was essentially about taking the current broadcast of BBC Crimewatch and adapting it by thinking of news ways to incorporate it within the digital spectrum. Creating an inventive new concept that integrates both the broadcast and digital platforms to help Crimewatch solve crimes.
Problem with Crimewatch
The main problem is a lack of motivation and desire for all audiences of Crimewatch to assist with the investigation when watching the broadcast. How can we design an interactive product that will allow the Crimewatch audience to become apart of the experience from start to finish no matter where they are demographically? The current situation only allows viewers within the location of the crime to be of any use.
Crimewatch viewers need to feel connected emotionally to the crime. The current situation detaches the audience as they see the broadcast as a crime drama and not a real life event. Essentially, they should feel connected and feel the unjust act, raw and up close.
Solution
The process would be to create an ad campaign for all target audiences in a form of both video and print to take them back and to communicate what Crimewatch really means. Triggering their basic human emotions by demonstrating the very real nature of crimes, which they can unexpectedly find themselves entangled within. To then use these combinations to give the audience an incentive to want to solve the unjust act witnessed and to protect their family and community.
Allowing the Crimewatch viewer to solve a crime wherever they are. Becoming the investigator by giving them the tools to solve the crime. Using the existing technology, 360º reconstructions will allow the user to visit the scene of the crime to cover all angles and perspectives. Every new user will generate a unique path as they go down their own individual avenues, investigating new hypothesis and clues without any restrictions or influences, giving them the best opportunity to change the view on crime.
Future of Crimewatch 360º
Crimewatch would work along side local counsels to Install 360º CCTV cameras to allow for a 24-hour constant live stream to the Crimewatch app. Live streaming will encourage a continuous engagement with app users. It would drop crime rates due to criminals being consciously aware that any crime he will commit will be vigorously investigated at all angles by a large quantity of Crimewatch app users.
