Studio Brief 1 - Secret 7 - Idea Development of Tame Impala

The second idea that I wanted to move forward with was the song 'The less I know the better' by Tame Impala. The concept for this idea was straight to the point but with a humours twist. The idea is to essentially play around with the wording of the a sentence that mixes the song title with the rules and guidelines of Secret 7. The song title gave me the perfect opportunity to incorporate the song title on the sleeve subtly without actually giving away the song.

Embedding the style of David Shrigley handwritten text I wrote out the sentence "I was going to put the title of the track on the sleeve but secret 7 said the less I know the better'. Initially the sentence does actually have the whole song title within the sentence which I wasn't exactly sure on. Therefore, I crossed out 'I' and changed it for 'you' making it less obvious. When the user first reads the sentence I imagine them trying to work out why secret 7 wouldn't want the title of the track on the song and then moments later figure out that the song is actually on the sleeve, acting like an epiphany moment for the audience. The best thing about the design is it's simplicity. It's straight to the point, It isn't to to simple that it's dull but it mixes just the humour and simplicity to make the concept stronger.

As you can see from the above, I wrote out the text in many different handwritten styles and scanned in the ones I felt looked the best and were most readable and begin to manipulate the words on the page, making sure the typesetting was done at a high standard. A neutral colour scheme emphasised the concept, making sure there were no distraction with the red from the cross, giving life to the work and making sure it's still appealing and attractive when viewed by the audience.
