Studio Brief 1 - Clockwork Orange - Feedback 1

As my new concept was developing naturally I had come up with a few variations of the layout of image and type positioned on the cover. The feedback I wanted to know was what version they preferred better and why. Whether or not they liked the isometric typeface or not. Or if I should have the hand within a black box and lay the text over the top. The people in the class are the newer younger audience that Penguin is trying to reach with Clockwork Orange so it's important to hear their feedback.

The majority preferred the version with the isometric type (1st one). They thought it was stronger visually and conceptually. Most also agreed that they like the cover on a white background, they felt it was different from the original orange cover that have been over used. I agreed in that sense because If I'm going to have any chance of winning then I need to avoid the obvious cliches.

There was mixed reviews about whether to contain the hands within a box or not. One argument for it was that It gave the book more of a contemporary style and contained the hands well. The argument against was that it looked cramped and it looked better as it filled up the page more. I agree with both argument but I like the fact that the black container does convey a modern aesthetic and it also contrast and compliments the orange from the typography.
