Studio Brief 2 - D&AD Telegraph - Feedback on Mockups

As the wireframes were complete me and Lo decided that feedback was essential on the wireframes before we begin to mock them up digitally. How we conducted this feedback was to simply show people in our class the wireframes we had and to explain our concept/idea for 'Your Telegraph'.

We asked question such as:
  • If you was a new user coming to the app, would you know how to pick and navigate through the number of categories?
  • If you was on the article page how would you create a response?
  • Do you prefer this type of response feature over comments?
  • Do you think the drag and drop feature is successful and would you use it?

Before showing what people said It was challenging to completely demonstrate how the interactive features would work on the wireframes. The best scenario would be to demonstrate the interaction and animation on an actual screen but at this time we needed some kind of feedback before we went ahead with this process but we both tried our best to explain how the features would work.

We showed the wireframes to around 7 people and below are some of the comments from the feedback as a lot of people either didn't expand enough or didn't really understand the concept enough to really go into detail.

If you was a new user coming to the app, would you know how to pick and navigate through the number of categories?

"It's very self explanatory and simple to use."
"I think the card stack idea is really effective, especially for the younger audience you're trying to aim the product at"
"It reminds me of tinder, but the idea behind the swiping method is effective"

If you was on the article page, how would you create a response?

The overall answer for this question was yes.

Do you prefer this type of response feature over comments?

"It's very different to what comments are. Maybe have the responses at the bottom and not as a floating button?”
"Yes, it's unique and very creative. "
"The three types of responses is a cleaver idea. It's flexible for everyone that way, and yes I prefer it over comments!"
"I really love the social aspect around the response feature where people can gain a following from it"

Do you think the drag and drop feature is successful and would you use it?

"It seems very confusing at first but once you explained it to me I can see it being very popular"
"Yes! I would absolutely use it "
"It's a unique approach to news. It's what everyone wants really"
"I think the idea of removing and positioning widget anywhere is amazing"
"Maybe if I got involved with the news a lot more but I'm not sure if I would because how little I engage with the news."

The overall feedback was positive. Some people suggested a few changes but me a Lo felt as if they were saying the changes because they didn't quite understand the concept fully. So maybe that's feedback in its self? Making the concept clearer from the start but I think it will be a lot clearer once we begin the animation of the app.
